Family Work Camp will be held at the Ben Lomond Quaker Center from Tuesday, July 28th, through to noon on Sunday, August 2nd, 2026. Our work will be guided by Quaker Center Maintenance Technician Ben Hofvendahl, Maintenance Assistant Carlos Angulo, by other Quaker Center staff, and, as always, by participant volunteers like you.

First time at FWC? Welcome!

Family Work Camp is a joyous, annual celebration of community, collective effort, Spirit and fun. We’ll first gather for dinner on Tuesday, July 28th. For the following four days, we’ll work on various maintenance and improvement projects for three-hour shifts between breakfast and lunch, and then spend the afternoons and evenings doing other things together. That may include hiking, singing, resting, visiting the San Lorenzo River or a nearby Friends’ pool, or doing nothing at all. For decades, FWC has been a special favorite for parents, grandparents, teens and children.

Each year, the work crews include both heavy and light work, and outdoor and indoor projects. As always, all skill levels are welcome. Experience is also most definitely welcome but absolutely not necessary to attend and participate.

What kind of work will we do? Last year, work crews painted the inside of the Casa de Luz, chopped a full year’s worth of firewood for Quaker Center’s five woodstoves, got some serious fire mitigation work and brush clearing done, worked in the garden and playground, painted a mural, and completed dozens of mid-sized projects. Another crew built two gorgeous Adirondack-style benches from rescued redwood.

In 2026, there will be many options to choose from. As always, we’ll have two of the classics: a wood splitting crew and a brush clearing/burnpile crew. Other likely projects this year include building picnic benches, creating some terraced seating above our outdoor orchard stage, trail work, and more.

“Do I have to be in a family to attend?” As with all Quaker Center programs, all are welcome at Family Work Camp. You are welcome to join us whether you are flying solo, or coming with friends or family members.

I’m a teen and I want to come but my parents can’t bring me this year. Can I come without my parents? Family Work Camp is a beloved gathering for teens and young adults. If you’re under 18 and want to come and your parent(s) or guardian aren’t able to bring you, you may be able to come with a responsible adult sponsor over 25 years old. If you’re a teen that fits this description, or an adult who might be willing to sponsor a young person, get in touch with us.

How much does Family Work Camp cost? We don’t want finances to prevent anyone from attending. Like all our programs, FWC will use a sliding scale fee structure. We ask you to consider how much you can comfortably contribute towards this week of service and fun. Your generous contributions will help others attend Family Work Camp.

Our suggested cost tiers are:

Standard rate: $250 – 400
Welcome rate: $100 – 200
Children and teens: 0 – $100

Housing with be in Quaker Center’s Orchard and Redwood Lodges, and campsites will be available throughout Quaker Center.
