Clerking today

an in-person program
with Barbara Babin
January 23-25, 2026

Come and learn the basics of the beautiful Quaker practice of Clerking: guiding groups towards collective decisions and actions by helping to discern the Sense of the Meeting. Everyone can learn to do this, which is why members of Quaker Meetings all take turns doing it.

All are welcome. Whether you’re new to clerking or you’d like a refresher, this program is open to all.

About the facilitator. Barbara Babin has experienced clerking as a deeply spiritual practice leading to personal growth, service, and leadership. Through her service as presiding clerk for Palo Alto Monthly Meeting and Redwood Forest Meeting, as well as clerk of various committees at the monthly and yearly meeting levels, she has engaged in the joys and challenges of clerking. She has facilitated several clerking workshops for new and current clerks of committees and Meetings, and others who wanted to learn more about clerking. Barbara enjoys mentoring and coaching those who are stretching and stepping into new roles as they are called into service for our Quaker groups and organizations.
